Native Plant Sale

SUNDAY, MAY 21, 2017

Sunday, May 21st from 10:00 AM – 2:00 PM

Schaumburg Community Garden Club and Spring Valley together host the annual Native Plant Sale.  With a later date, the intent is to have more plants be available for sale as they will have time to grow!

Turn your typical suburban yard into a native haven attracting birds, butterflies and other beneficial wildlife.  Even a soggy area of lawn can become an ecologically sound rain garden that is better adapted to handle rain water runoff.  Problem shady areas can become beautiful woodland settings.  Native plants not only add beauty; they also allow us to make a positive impact on soil, water, and air quality.  Not sure where to start?  Master Gardeners will be available to answer your questions regarding plants and gardening!

What happened to the Backyards for Nature Fair?  It will be joined with the scheduled opening of the Bison Bluff Nature Playground on Arbor Day, April 22nd, 2017.

Ordering Information

We offer native wildflowers, grasses, shrubs, and trees as well as some non-native perennials at our sale.

About the Plants

Most of the prairie plants are provided as small 2.5″ plugs  with a fully developed root system in a 5” deep soil mass.  Most woodland arrive in  4-½” pots.  Nnon-native perennials come in 4-½” pots and #1 gallon pots.

All trees and shrubs offered for sale come as 5-gallon potted plants. Newly planted shrubs will, with proper care, put on excellent growth due to extensive root system. Order early since quantities of these will be limited.

How Do I Know What to Select?

We have provided information about each plant, including flower color, bloom season, height, spread, moisture, and light requirements.  We also indicate which plants will attract bees, butterflies or hummingbirds.
