This Month’s Topic is Conservation@Home presented by Master Gardeners Pete Landwehr and Dwayne Anderson. Pete and Dwayne who will introduce this new program which is jointly sponsored by the University of Illinois Extension and the Forest Preserves of Cook County to evaluate and recognize support for wildlife and sustainable conservation practices by property owners in Cook County. Evaluations are performed onsite by Master Gardeners and Master Naturalists with successful achievement recognized by a Conservation@Home yard sign.
Pete Landwehr has been a Master Gardener since 2014 and has been raising vegetables for over 30 years. He started a weekly “Ask A Master Gardener” answer desk at the Arlington Heights Farmers Market where he and fellow Master Gardener volunteers answer gardening and landscaping questions. He also started a vegetable garden at Catholic Charities in Des Plaines to raise fresh vegetables for their food pantry.
Dwayne Anderson has been with the University of Illinois Extension’s Master Gardener program since 2008. Dwayne’s primary interest is developing and maintaining school vegetable gardens. He is currently involved with the running of two school gardens: one school for special needs students and another school involving college students. Dwayne is also interested in growing and promoting native plants.
