Come Grow with Us!

 WELCOME to the

Schaumburg Community Garden Club

Please join us for our next club meeting on August 10th at Spring Valley Nature Center.  After discussing club business we will be treated to a presentation by Landscape Architect Laura Christensen:

From Glum to Gorgeous with Groundcovers

Groundcover1

Laura will discuss an often-overlooked component of the home landscape – groundcovers. Even though they are small plants, they can have a major visual impact in your yard. Laura will talk about a wide range of great groundcovers, including their features, where and how to use them in your home landscape, and with what partner plants they will look their best. ‘Traditional’ trailing and spreading groundcovers, perennials, grasses, and low shrubs that spread well will be covered. Groundcovers are plants that most people can install themselves. Learn how you can start transforming your own yard from glum to gorgeous this year!

Laura Christensen Biography

LauraChristensen

I am a landscape architect practicing in Wheaton, Illinois. I started DESIGN WITH NATURE about seven years ago. I do primarily residential landscape design in the Chicago suburbs. I also do educational speaking for garden clubs in Illinois.

Prior to creating DESIGN WITH NATURE, I practiced as a landscape architect and city planner for the Village of Schaumburg as their staff design planner and landscape architect. I then went on to do planning consulting at Camiros, Ltd. in downtown Chicago. Camiros is a nationally recognized planning, landscape architecture and economic development consulting firm. While raising my children I did free-lance landscape architecture work under the business name of LSC Associates.

I have my bachelor’s degree in landscape architecture from the University of Wisconsin – Madison and my masters of science in Urban Planning from Northwestern University in Evanston, Illinois. I enjoy doing on-going continuing education through the horticulture program and the Morton Arboretum and Chicago Botanic Garden as well as by attending conferences through the American Society of Landscape Architects, of which I have been a member for 36 years.
